My children have been eating white rice since the moment I introduced them with solid foods. As I write this blog, my eldest daughter is 8 years old and my second daughter is 3 years old. So here are my reasons why I started introducing brown rice to my kids.

Brown Rice has more nutritious benefits compared to white rice. I will emphasize 3 reasons why choose brown rice.

1.) Brown rice is whole grain rice, which means that it is rich in fiber, minerals and nutrients that are essential to the body.

2.) Brown rice can help prevent type 2 diabetes. The magnesium and fiber content of brown rice can help to control blood sugar in the body. The bran of brown rice contains higher antioxidants that can help reduce the risk of critical illnesses.

3.) Eating brown rice can control weight gain, giving you a fitter body.

Actually, it is not easy to introduce brown rice to my kids because they’re used to eating white rice. White rice is tastier to eat than brown rice.

So I slowly shift them by mixing the brown rice and white rice in cooking until they will develop a good acceptance tastebud to pure brown rice.

Here’s my video on how I cook brown rice and white rice together:

How to cook mixed white rice and brown rice as start-up step to switching from white to brown:

  1. Rinse brown rice properly. Measurement: 1 cup of brown rice is equal to 2 cups of water.
  2. Cook it in a rice cooker or any cooking pot. Let it boil for 5 minutes before adding the white rice.
  3. Add clean white rice. Measurement: 1 cup of rice is equal to 1 cup of water. Let it cook.
  4. Serve once done.

My kids like it and I’m sure your kids too …
